"Good... Bad.. I'm the guy with the gun."

Checking in after a bit of a holiday hiatus! Here's my version of Ashley J. Williams :3

I took a workshop with some award-winning caricature artist last year and thought I'd try making one of the funniest looking men even more funny looking.

Hail to the king, baby!

"Your Kung-fu is weak!"

Nothing says '70s to me like good ol' exploitative Kung-fu movies! A couple quick sketches done while waiting on hold... Bruce Lee and Jim Kelly. Funkay...

I admit, I love a lot about the 70s. I'm obsessed with ADIDAS shell top sneakers! :) My uncles were really into martial arts in the late 70s and 80s, too. They emulated Lee a lot. I'll have to find some old photos of them all ripped and posing with nunchuks, lol!

Sailor Jerrry-style Wonder Woman

Edited: Forgot her Golden Lariat! Added and moved the sig off her bootie by request :)

Here's my submission for this week's challenge: Golden Age Super Heroes: Wonder Woman done in the Sailor Jerry tattoo style.

I originally was considering doing a series of X-men portraits in the style of the old cartoons, such as Disney, Tex Avery, Popeye and Betty Boop. Here's a scan of the ideas I was tossing around in my Moleskine:

I then thought maybe I could do something in the style of a pin-up calendar girl. As I was mulling that idea over, I decided I wanted to include my love of all things tattoo. Sailor Jerry was a prolific tattoo artist in the late 30s & 40s and his style is quite iconic (WITHOUT the help of Ed Hardy shirts, I might add). I wanted a more colorful drawing, so I picked Wonder Woman, but drawing her up wasn't without challenges. As I got ready to outline her, I pulled off the cap of a Micron pen to find it had leaked. The ink splattered on the paper. Photoshop to the rescue!

Hope you like it! I figured I'd at least get the current theme up so I don't feel TOO far behind X)

Week 5 - The O.U.M. - Original Univeral Monster

Well... Depending on who you ask... The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney, was officially the 1st Universal Studios true HORROR film, though the Hunchback of Notre Dame did come before it as a historical drama, and Dr, Jekyll & Mr. Hyde was made before "Universal Studios" officially existed. I consider him the 1st true Universal Monster. Sketched into my Mokeskine. This scan seems a little off kilter. I'll rescan tomorrow on a better scanner and replace...

Ultimately, I want to do a 4-panel set of these guys on these small 5"x5" canvases.

10/28/2011 - Replaced with a better scan.

"D@mn fangirls..."

Submitted for your approval... Poor Nightcrawler always seemed to have more than his fair share of fangirls. I was REALLY into the X-men back in the early 90s, so this is my homage to "Classic" Kurt. Apologies for the poor quality and lateness. I've been having some bone problems lately, particularly in my hands and hips. It's been kind of hard holding onto a pencil because of it. =/

Beauty is the Beast

Weird... My original text didn't show up... I had this image in my mind for many years. It's based on a girl I knew in college. She was gorgeous and seemed so perfect and sweet... As long as you kept kissing her butt about how pretty and hot and special she was. Once I got on her bad side by telling her the truth that the jeans she was trying on DID make her butt look fat (I was trying to be helpful! What better friend than one who will be totally honest so you don't embarrass yourself in public??), I always had the sense that her mouth was full of shark teeth...

If I ever get around to fleshing this out more, I'd define the coil of tentacles deep in her throat. The reference photo I used is a pretty common stock photo of a girl who looks amazingly like the girl I knew.

Week 2: Samurai =/

I had such high hopes for this particular theme when it was first announced. Who knew I'd suffer the week from hell?

Just because I have absolutely nothing else to show for the week, this is one of the better "idea" sketches I did before I finally gave up. I started with a gesture and started trying to rough in shapes and planes on newsprint before I redo the sketch with proper anatomical proportions and placement. I do like this idea and hope to actually go somewhere with it in the future.

Weapons Locked and Loaded - Suzi Kim

I'm not much of a comic artist or very good at pen & ink, but I thought I'd give it a try! This is the entirely too deviously cute Oscar, trying to guilt some unfortunate soul into give him a bite of whatever they may be munching on.
