I've had a wealth of paying work lately with crushing deadlines (which is good!) I've put off my entries (which is bad.) So... here we go, catching up!
First, from the Lovecraftian week:
And now, a mash-up of X-Men, Universal Monsters, and a thark from Burroughs...
That catches me up.
Obviously, I did these on double-time, one sketch cards to get me back with the rest of the class (:

15 minute doodle...and very late.
dI am not really a Lovecraft fan and I have very limited knowledge of the lore, but I needed to do something. Originally I thought of doing a Hellboy drawing because Mignola got a lot of his inspiration from Lovecraft. Instead I did this quick sketch over coffee.

Cthulhu Noir
Had to rush it towards the end. Will go back at some point soon and finish it the way I'd originally envisioned.

Beauty is the Beast

Weird... My original text didn't show up... I had this image in my mind for many years. It's based on a girl I knew in college. She was gorgeous and seemed so perfect and sweet... As long as you kept kissing her butt about how pretty and hot and special she was. Once I got on her bad side by telling her the truth that the jeans she was trying on DID make her butt look fat (I was trying to be helpful! What better friend than one who will be totally honest so you don't embarrass yourself in public??), I always had the sense that her mouth was full of shark teeth...
If I ever get around to fleshing this out more, I'd define the coil of tentacles deep in her throat. The reference photo I used is a pretty common stock photo of a girl who looks amazingly like the girl I knew.
The Creative Process by Steven E. Gordon
I almost didn't get a chance to post something for this week's theme. Not sure this quite does HP credit, but it was the best I can do while juggling a couple of deadlines. I have something in mind for next week's theme and hopefully I won't end up having to pull out an old XME drawing.

Week 3: Lovecraft Davy Jones by Scott Christian Sava
Hi all!
I've been out of town all week...but just made enough time to put together a 1 hour sketch for this.
Thank you to Suzi who recommended water color paper for watercolor (I know...duh).
SO much nicer than bristol board.
Here's my take on this week's theme. I'm still trying to push "loosening up" a bit. And hope that over the months...it'll start to click with me.
In the meantime...thanks for indulging me while I explore new mediums and techniques.
Scott
PS. I REALLY need a scanner. So hard to get the colors right from an iphone camera.
:)

UPDATE:
Found out we have a scanner. Here's a scanned version (better than the iphone pic above...

Do You See Something?
I was watching Terra Nova (and at 7:30, yes, I switched to 2 Broke Girls) and start messing around with an idea for this weeks theme. I took a few breaks and then decided to get serious around 1am. I finished this, pencils, inks and colors at about 3:30 am. It looked a little scary, to me anyways. I wanted to give it a bit of a story that the viewer could create how this scene happened in the first place. I try to do that a lot with my work.
Anyways... I used the usual stuff (nothing digital, minus scanning) 2H lead - Micron pens, Copic Multiliners, Copic Markers, White Prismacolor Pencil, Pentel brush pen and a Pentel Water Brush.
Hope you guys and gals enjoy.

The Lurker in the Iced Mocha Latte by Shawn Dueck
There's a reason the specialty coffees are un-pronounceable.
The monster and most of the human face are 3D sketches done in Sculptris. The rest was done in Painter 10.
