Robots: Wall-E and Clank

In an effort to revitalize the blog, here is my entry for the "Robots" theme: Wall-E and Clank.
Cheating a bit, since it's a piece I drew last year for my son, but I'm very happy with how it came out.

Mountain Lake

Under the "Whatever" category, here's a quick digital painting I whipped up today.

Used some reference for the clouds and mountains.  The rest is pure Bob Ross remembrance.
Photoshop CS2, about 4 hours.

Satyr

Playing perpetual catchup.  Here's a WAAAAAAAAAY overdue "Mythology" entry - the Satyr.

The full drawing is not done, but the satyr's figure was complete, so I thought I'd at least post that.

Entirely in Manga Studio 4 Debut.

Power Girl - in color

Colored the Power Girl pic.
Also, noticed that the cape buckle and strap were on the wrong side, so fixed that up.

Catching up - Power Girl

Desperately trying to catch up.  Here's my entry for Ladies of the DC Universe - Power Girl.

Started out as a quick head sketch, and quickly evolved from there.

Done entirely in Manga Studio 4 Debut.  About 5 hours

Ladies of the Marvel U - Blind Al

Obscure-character-five!

This is Blind Al, one-time Deadpool's roommate/prisoner.  She's old, cranky, blind, and once impersonated Aunt May when she and Deadpool got thrown back in time (seriously, this happened).

Oh, and she also dated Captain America.

I love Atomic Robo! (featuring Doctor Dinosaur)

I love Atomic Robo.  Atomic Robo represents what comics seem to have forgotten - fun.  Whether this eighty-year-old invention of Nikola Tesla is battling giant robots with evil Nazi brains, running away from Cthonic monsters from outside of the universe, or rescuing soldiers from the vampire dimension, there's a feeling of fun and awesomeness permeating every page and line of dialog.
So here is my very belated entry for the "Dinosaurs" theme - Atomic Robo being pestered by his nemesis Doctor Dinosaur ("Crystals!").
Now do yourself a favor and go get your grubby hands on some Atomic Robo.  Your "awesome meter" will thank you.  And remember - always assume it's mummies until proven otherwise.

Wonder Woman

OK, cheating a little bit here, since these are both old pieces.

The first is a commission I did six years ago, and the second is a quick redesign sketch from around the same time that I did for fun.

Polgara the Sorceress

The Belgariad/Malloreon series of books by David and Leigh Eddings are among my absolute favorite stories, and I consider Polgara to be one of the best literary creations of all time.
It took me forever to get a layout that I was comfortable with, but I think I finally got it.

This is a work-in-progress, which I intend to digitally paint.  Nonetheless, lest I miss yet another blog deadline, here it is.
Hopefully I'll finish up the painting by the deadline, but if not, I'll put it up whenever it's done.

Vampirella by Elshad Kasumov

Vampirella, done in the Art Nouveau style of Alphonse Mucha
I've been an admirer of his work for a while, and Vampirella just seemed like a character that would lend itself well to his style.

Done entirely digitally in Manga Studio 4 Debut.

Hail to the King, Baby!

I've missed quite a few weeks here on the blog, for which I will try to make up.  Working on the backlog right now, so hopefully will start to fill up the gap.
For now, though, here's Ash.

"Army of Darkness" is my favorite movie, and Bruce Campbell is awesomeness incarnate.  With this, I wasn't trying to go for realism - I just wanted to draw Ash, doing what he does best - kicking ass and gettin' some sugar, baby!

Done entirely in Manga Studio 4 Debut.

Dracula and Mina

Sorry for being late (yet again).
Downloaded a trial version of Painter 12 and started playing around with it, as I'd never used Painter before.
This is the result:

Quickie painting - I spent more time learning the layout and what the various tools did than actually painting.
Any tricks and tips are very much appreciated.

Crimson Dawn

Many years back, one of my favorite X-Men mini series was Psylocke and Archangel: Crimson Dawn.  It was entertainingly written by then-prolific Ben Raab, with art by some up-and-comer name Salvador Larroca (he may have done a thing or two since then ;)).  It was fun, beautifully drawn, and featured Psylocke, one of my favorite X-People.
So I thought it'd be neat to do a slight redesign of Psylocke as more of a ninja character, and do it in a more anime style than what I usually do.

Done entirely in Manga Studio Debut 4. Sorry for the lateness.

Cthulhu Noir

Had to rush it towards the end.  Will go back at some point soon and finish it the way I'd originally envisioned.

Done entirely in Photoshop CS2

Samurai - Elshad Kasumov

Drawn in black and white in Manga Studio, colored in Photoshop.  Fastest fully-digital drawing I've done yet.  Pretty happy with how it came out.

From Beltsville, With Love - Elshad Kasumov

First fully-digital sketch.  Need better Photoshop inking brushes.  Drawn on a Wacom Cintiq 21UX, which, incidentally, shipped from Beltsville, MD.
