Week Six: Dinosaurs T-Rex by Scott Christian Sava

So, I'm continuing to learn more about the medium.
I bought new watercolor paper.
This was done on Strathmore 140 lb 5.5x8.5 inch Watercolor Cold Press Paper.

I also learned that you can use Painter's Tape to keep the paper from contracting. So no more tack holes.
:)

And finally...I was told GUACHE is best for hitting white highlights. Better than white watercolor.

I love going to the art store and learning something new.

So...here's my 2 hour sketch of a T-Rex. Hope you like it.

  1. Excellent T-Rex, Scott.

The very best white is the white of the paper, but gouache is the next best thing.

Some artists will use a scalpel and/or sandpaper to pick out white highlights. Needless to say, gouache is much less hassle.

  3. THanks guys!
I agree the paper is the best. But it's just WAY too much work to save the spaces (even with rubber cement).

I'm thinking of doing some superheroes...or some classic pin-ups next.
